Answer:

16. rationalising the denominators on both the terms

--------

= (√5+√3/√5-√3 × √5+√3/√5+√3) + (√5-√3/√5+√3 × √5-√3/√5-√3)

= (√5+√3)² / (√5)² - (√3)² + (√5-√3)² / (√5)² - (√3)²

= 5+ 2√15 + 3 / 5-3 + 5 - 2√15 + 3 / 5-3

= 8+2√15-2√15+8 / 2

= 16/2

= 8

17. rationalising the denominators on both the terms

-------

= 7+3√5/3+√5 × 3-√5/3-√5 - 7-3√5/3-√5 × 3+√5/3+√5

= 7+3√5×3-√5/ (3)²-(√5)² - 7-3√5×3+√5 / (3)²-(√5)²

= 7+3√5-7-3√5 × 3-√5×3+√5 / 9-5

=√5 × (3)²-(√5)² /4

=√5 × 9 - 5 / 4

=4√5/4

=√5
