Identity used :

(a + b)(a - b) =  {a}^{2}  -  {b}^{2}

 \frac{1}{1 -  \sqrt{7} }  \\

On rationalizing the denominator we get,

 =  \frac{1}{1 -  \sqrt{7} }  \times  \frac{1 +  \sqrt{7} }{1 +  \sqrt{7} }  \\  \\  =  \frac{1(1 +  \sqrt{7} )}{(1 -  \sqrt{7} )(1 +  \sqrt{7} )}  \\  \\   =  \frac{1 +  \sqrt{7} }{ {(1)}^{2}  -  {( \sqrt{7}) }^{2} }  \\  \\  =  \frac{1 +  \sqrt{7} }{1 - 7}  \\  \\  =  \frac{1 +  \sqrt{7} }{ - 6}  \\  \\  =  \frac{ - 1 -  \sqrt{7} }{6}
