 \frac{ \sqrt{3} - 1 }{ \sqrt{3}  + 1}  \\  =  \frac{( \sqrt{3} - 1)( \sqrt{3}  -  1)  }{( \sqrt{3} + 1)( \sqrt{3} - 1)  }  \\  =  \frac{( { \sqrt{3} - 1) }^{2} }{ {( \sqrt{3}) - ( 1) }^{2} }  \\  =  \frac{3 + 1 - 2 \sqrt{3} }{3 - 1}  \\  =  \frac{4 - 2 \sqrt{3} }{2}  \\  = 2 -  \sqrt{3}
