RBCs of the blood contain hemoglobin an iron compound.

Hemoglobin helps to transport oxygen to the tissue. Each hemoglobin contains subunits Hemes, which are what give blood its red color.

It develops in bone marrow that becomes red blood cells. When the red cells die then the hemoglobin is broken up into many parts.

Then the interior iron will transported to the bone marrow by proteins.
