Hey dear,
● Isopropyl alcohol to ter.butyl alcohol -
Isopropyl alcohol is when treated with methyl magnesium bromide gives an intermediate which on acidic hydrolysis gives ter. butyl alcohol.
(CH3)2CH-OH + CH3MgBr --> (CH3)3C-OMgBr
(CH3)3C-OMgBr + 2H2O --> (CH3)3C-OH + Mg(OH)2 + HBr
*Methyl magnesium bromide is known as Grignard reagent.
