Coal is the prime source of power generation in India. Coal exists in
three forms.
Firstly there is coke which is tough, black and porous. It is mainly
used in the manufacture of steel and the extraction of metals.
Next we have Coal Tar which is also black but it is thick and has an
unpleasant smell. It has a wide variety of uses. It is used in the
manufacture of synthetic dyes and plastic paints. Also we can make
explosives and roofing materials besides perfumes and drugs from it.
Lastly we have Coal Gas which is useful as a fuel.
