Read the para and comment on it. To contrast the Renaissance as a period of dynamism and artistic creativity, and the Middle ages as a period of gloom and lack of development is an over-simplification. Many elements associated with the Renaissance in Italy can be traced back to the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. It has been suggested by some historians that in the ninth century in France, there had been similar literary and artistic blossoming.

Answer:

Yes… These kinds of judgments are examples of simplification.

There’s always a need to emphasize the importance of events when we tell it to the general humans. (When I need to write stories, I have to create strong contrasts, so that people can associate/understand better. Example: if I have to portray country X is a bad country, I would have to depict poverty, suffering, hunger, corruption, moral decriptitude, etc. The country may have many good qualities, but we won’t be portraying them, because it defeats our objective.)

Any age was the result of the previous ages. There have been splendid civilizations thousands of years ago. They were quite advanced, given their times.

The period of Renaissance must have borrowed much from earlier times. But it goes unmentioned.

This is a painting (Title: St. Jerome) by Leonardo da Vinci…

I think this is a work of hundreds of years, given its quality, technique, fineness, etc… There must be processes a few centuries old which led to its creation.

Cheers.
