ANSWER -

  • Ants like to eat sugar.
  • Ants are social insects that live in colonies of varying sizes.
  • In the ant colonies, a remarkable division of labor is seen.
  • Ants are omnivorous insects that feed on a variety of things to survive.
  • However, They like to eat sugar and things made up of sugar.

(2) What does an ant do with a grain of sugar?

  • Once the worker ant smells sugar it goes toward and takes the grain to its nest or hole
  • The worker ant leaves pheromones (chemical messengers) on the surface of the ground.
  • This trail of pheromones is sensed by other ants of the same colony. This trail of pheromones is further reinforced by other ants along with grains of sugar (food) to the colony.
  • When all the grains of sugar are exhausted no new trail of pheromones is formed.
