Generally maps have different types like

Topographical

  • Physical
  • Climatic
  • Road map
  • Political, etc…

But the colors that are used to depict certain geographical feature in maps are mostly similar in all type of maps.

Here I have presented the use of colors in maps.

  • Blues are waters like rivers, lakes, ponds, oceans and seas.
  • Greens are natural vegetation, wildlife reserves, national parks, and more…
  • Whites are the lands that have no vegetation.
  • Browns are the contour lines that display elevation levels.
  • Reds are highways, major roads, and townships.
  • Blacks are building, boundaries, and man mad features.
  • Pinks are urban areas.
