let the unknown number be X,

according to the data,

The difference between twice of unknown number and 3 is 15,
So by this we can write that,

2X - 3 = 15

this is the required form,

If you need to solve for X,
Then add 3 on both sides,

=> 2X = 18
=> X = 9 !!!
