Reason for difference in distance from East to West &north to south

as we know distance of E-W is measured by calculating latitudes and S-N is measured by calculating longitudes.there are 30 latitudes and it takes 4 min to go from one latitude to other. thus, it takes 120 minutes or 2 hrs to cross each latitude. but longitudes are more .
