Reason for low quantum yield:
- The photochemical method may get backtracked due to some other reason.
- The Stimulated molecules lose its energy before they get reacts.
- For endothermic reactions, a number of photons absorbed are more whereas the product formed is less.
- When the active reactant collide with the wall of the container, the rate of reaction decreases and the product form is less.
Reason for High quantum yield:
- The absorption of radiation involves production of atom which starts the chain reaction.
- For exothermic reactions, the number of photons absorbed is less whereas the product formed is more.
- Those photochemical reaction in which free radicals are formed in the first step.
- The formed intermediate product which acts as a catalyst.
- The absorbed photon are less and product formed is more.
