Ibrahim Lodi faced lots of challenges:

1.      He did not have the ruling capacity.

2.      There were too many rebellions like the Eastern India rebellion.

3.      The Mewar ruler Rana Sangram Singh threatened to attack Agra to extend his empire.

4.      The old and senior commanders were replaced with younger ones and this displeased the nobility.

5.      Dissatisfaction amongst Afghan Nobles and they were brutally murdered.

6.      His inefficiency in running the administration and blocking the trade routes fetched him many enemies.

7.      The economic conditions were bad and the treasury was getting drained because of continuous war.

All the above led to the defeat of him in the battle of Panipat by Babur in 1526 and rise of Mughal Empire.  Initially, Babu faced resistance from the Rajputs and Afghans but with the defeat of Rana Sanga of Mewar, the resistance came down.  Like his predecessors, Babur too plundered the Hindu temples and killed the people to expand his empire until his death in 1530 A.D.

The first Battle of Panipat took place in 1526 between Ibrahim Lodi and Babur. The reasons for Ibrahim Lodi's defeat are:

1. Babur used a scientific combination of cavalry and artillery.

2. There was no unity among the Indian rulers. They did not join together to face a threat on India from outside.

3. Babur was a very capable general and knew all the tactics of war.

4. Ibrahim Lodi did not treat the Afghan Nobles well. So the Amirs were against him.

5. His army was not trained and organized properly. It was not disciplined.

6. He was an inexperienced and inefficient military general.

7. He used elephants in the army while Babur used horses who were more active.

8. Babur used the Tulugama Strategy of war.
