• Aurangzeb’s intolerant policies caused revolts in different parts of the sub-continent
• The successors of Aurangzeb were weak and inefficient and so they were unable to keep a check on their powerful mansabdars, local chieftains and other groups.
• The Mughal empire also became weak due to competition among different groups of nobles the Iranis and the Turanis.

• Invasion by Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah Abdali also broke the backbone of the Mughal empire.
