Forest fires are generally caused due to dry forests which become very inflammable. It can be triggered by lightning, human error, sparks from rock fall or spontaneous combustion.
It effects the plant population in forest, vegetation, wildlife and can cause massive amount of atmospheric pollution.
Prevention can include reducing human error which leads to wildfire, like burning leaves in open, throwing cigarette stubs, etc.
