Hello,

The red pigment found in vertebrates which functions as a oxygen transporter is known as
HAEMOGLOBIN

HAEMOGLOBIN is called as the respiratory carrier of the body as of its only responsible for carrying oxygen to different body parts.

Why HAEMOGLOBIN is present in blood.
This is because oxygen is least soluble in blood hence, it would have been difficult for oxygen to get transported to different body parts.
So, HAEMOGLOBIN carries the oxygen to different body parts.
The hemoglobin is called as OXY HAEMOGLOBIN when it carries oxygen in the arteries

Also, HAEMOGLOBIN dissolves small amount of carbondioxide in it. This time it is called as
CARBOXY HAEMOGLOBIN.

Also, vertebrates use blood for carrying oxygen because of they had used diffusion as respiratory carried then it would have taken 3 years for the blood to reach the down part of their body.

Hence, HAEMOGLOBIN and blood are very very very important.

Hope this will be helping you ✌️
