Answer:

3/x + 5/y = 12

-1/x + 4/y = 5

substitution put a = 1/x b = 1/y

equation reduces to 3a + 5b = 12

- a + 4b = 5×3

3a + 5b = 12

-3a + 4b = 15

on adding these two equations we get,

5b + 4b = 27

9b = 27

b = 3

3a + 5(3) = 12

3a = 12 - 15

a = -3/3 => -1

therefore a = -1 and b = 3

now we have to get bak tne values of x and y

1/x = a => x = 1/a => 1/-1 = -1

1/y = b => y = 1/b => 1/3

therefore x = -1 and y = 1/3
