the ans isFriction or resistance occur because of change - when there is no change, there is no friction. Useful change occurs because we want to process information (some people, me included, think physics is a subset of information theory). Any other kind of change is just wasteful - like walking to a meeting when you could meet by Augmented Reality or shipping goods instead of downloading them.
