Reeta conducted an experiment in the lab with a soil sample of weight 50g. She took the
powdered soil sample in a funnel and started adding water into the funnel drop by drop by
using the dropper. She has noted the initial volume of the water is 100ml and final volume of
the water is 30 ml in a measuring cylinder. Calculate the percentage of water absorbed by the
soil.

Answer:

We have, total weight of soil 50g

and, initial volume of water is 100ml

After, absorbed 30ml

100/50 ×100= 200 (1)

and 100/30×100= 1000/3 (2)

Adding (1) and (2) we obtain

Amount of water absorbed = 53. 3%
