Let the number chosen by reetu be S.

She subtracts 32 from it, so it becomes S-32.

Now this is multiplied by 8, so it becomes (S-32)×8………..(1)

This value is 5 times the original value, which is 5×S………….(2)

Equating (1) and (2)

(S-32)×8=5×S

-> 8S-256 = 5S

-> 3S=256

-> S=256÷3

-> S= 85.333333333

Therefore number chosen by reetu is 85.33333333.

Answer:

x is the original number

x-32=y (result obtained by subtracting)———(equation 1)

8y=5x —— > 5x-8y =0———(equation 2)

Solve eq 1 and eq 2

x=85.33 (number chose by anitha) and y = 53.33

I think the question could be - anitha thinks a number subtracts 3 from it.

Then the equation would be

x-3=y ———- equation 1

8y = 5x —— > 5x-8y=0 ———equation 2

Solve the equations

Then x = 8 (number chose by anitha) and y = 5
