Answer:

Resistors of 500 ohm and 3000 ohm are placed in series with a 60 V supply. What will be the reading on a voltmeter of internal resistance 2000 ohm

(a) when placed across the 500 ohm resistor

1/(1/500 + 1/2000)

= 2000/(4 + 1)

= 400 Ω

400 + 3000 = 3400 Ω

I = 60/3400

Voltage reading = (60/3400 ) * 400 = 120/17 V

(b) when placed across the the 3000 ohm resistor?

1/(1/2000 + 1/3000)

= 6000/(3 + 2)

= 1200 Ω

500 + 1200 = 1700 Ω

I = 60/1700

Voltage reading = (60/1700) * 1200 = 720/17 V.....
