Bimibisara was the king of Magadha during the late 5th century BC. He belonged to the Haryanka dynasty. He was a follower of Buddha and also a devotee of Jainism.

Bimbisara was the first to lay foundations for Magadha, which later became Pataliputra. Bimibisara expanded his kingdom to a large extent in the east, which later went to expand the Mauryan empire.

Bindusara was the son of Chandragupta Maurya, who founded the Mauryan empire.

However, according to the prose version of Ashokavadana, Bindusara has been considered to be the son of Nanda, and to be the 10th generation descendant of Bimibisara.

Bindusara was born to Chandragupta, the founder of the Mauryan Empire. ... The Dipavamsa, on the other hand, names Bindusara as the son of the king Shushunaga. The prose version of Ashokavadana states that Bindusara was the son of Nanda, and a 10th-generation descendant of Bimbisara.
