1. Vedic Tradition:

Indian culture began to take a concrete shape and form by the powerful Vedic tradition. After studying a Latin translation of the Vedas, the 19th century German philosopher Schopenheur declared in the following manner:

“The Vedas are the fruits of ‘the highest human knowledge and wisdom. The Upanishads are the greatest discovery of the century. In India our religion will never take root… On the contrary, Indian philosophy will produce a fundamental change in our knowledge and thought.”

2. Religious Tradition:

The roots of Indian culture can very well be traced back to their remote religious traditions. The antiquity of Indian religion begins right from the Harappan culture. Religion is a system of faith and worship. It is based on the human desire to surrender himself before an all powerful supernatural force. It is a human recognition of his inner desire to obey the supreme power. Naturally this religious instinct of man got a formal shape in Harappan civilization. But the Vedas laid the foundation of Brahmanical religion which was later on named as Hinduism. Thus in a sense it is the Vedas which outlined the religious sentiment of the Indians.

3. Philosophical Tradition:

Indian philosophical tradition serves as a potent’ factor for shaping the Indian culture. It has a distinct character of its own which originated in the teachings of the Vedic sages.
