Renna pushed the button for the elevator to go up, but it would not move. The weight limit for the elevator is 450 kilograms, but the current group of passengers weighs a total of 740 kilograms. Renna wants to determine how many 70-kilogram passengers need to get off the elevator. Let ppp represent the number of excess passengers. Write an inequality to determine the number of passengers who need to get off the elevator to meet the weight requirement.

Given that, p represent the number of excess passengers

The weight limit for the elevator is 450 kg. It means the elevator can not lift more that 450 kg.

Now, according to question, we have:

740-70p<450

740-70p-740<450-740 (subtracting 740 both sides)

-70p<-290

p>29/7 (dividing by -70 both sides)

Point to note, when an inequality is muliplied by negative number, the inequality sign gets reversed.

So, here is the inequality p>4.14 or p>29/7
