On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka is all set to observe a tree plantation programme at Bangladesh Buddhist Culture Promotion Association in Sabujbagh in Dhaka.
The Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Riva Ganguly Das, on Wednesday said that Mahatma Gandhi has done a lot of work for the environment, which is not mentioned most of the times. "We emphasize the importance of women empowerment and environmental protection stated by Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji's comment on the environment is more relevant today. Therefore, we should work to make the world more green and sustainable," he said.
Local MP Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, "Mahatma Gandhi is a world leader. The non-violent culture that he promoted is an inspiration for the whole world."
"We all are proud of the impression that we have been able to maintain in our region on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Thanks to the Indian Government for continuing the year-long effort in Bangladesh," said Saber Hossain.
