Answer:
Four cities—all from the state of Uttar Pradesh—have recorded ‘severe’-level Air Quality Indices (AQI) on Thursday, December 5, according to the Daily AQI bulletin by the Central Pollution Control Board.
No city across the country had recorded AQIs above the ‘very poor’ category for the past week—from November 28 (last Thursday) to December 4 (Wednesday). The re-entry to ‘severe’ category today marks the return of high air pollution levels in north India.
With an AQI of 432, Ghaziabad is most polluted Indian city on Thursday, closely followed by Greater Noida (417), Noida (414) and Bulandshahr (404).
Baghpat and Moradab are the other Uttar Pradesh-based cities on the top 10 most polluted list, with ‘very poor’ AQIs of 400 and 381 respectively.
