Despite tall claims by the Narendra Modi government and regular updates showing cumulative Covid jabs running into crores, the daily shots have tanked to a new low. The latest Cowin data shows that India managed to vaccinate somewhere around 23 lakh on July 21st. This is an extremely worrisome status. In its affidavit, the Centre has already told the Supreme Court that it has a target of vaccinating India’s entire adult population against coronavirus by December this year. With the current pace, this looks very unrealistic unless some stringent measures are not taken. The daily vaccination rate plummets even as the Centre maintains that there are around 3 crore unutilized doses still available with the states.
