Interviewer: We are honoured to have Virat Kohli - the most successful cricketer in the history of Indian cricket amongst us today. A very warm welcome to you Virat. I must say I am a huge fan of yours and this is a great opportunity for me that I’m able to stand in front of you and talk to you.
Virat Kohli: Thanks and the pleasure is all mine. The truth is, I stand nowhere in comparison to the great cricket legends like Tendulkar, Gavasakar, Kapil Dev and many more! But I really feel grateful for whatever has come to me.
Interviewer: Most of your fans like me are curious to know about you. So I’ll shoot my first question without any delay. When did you realise you wanted to be a cricketer?
Virat Kohli: To be honest, being a cricketer was not my dream. My passion was football. However, as I got the chance to play cricket, I developed an immense liking for the sport and since then I didn’t turn back.
Interviewer: What challenges did you face initially?
Virat Kohli: No road to success is said to be easy. Ample amount of challenges were there and facing them made me tough and strong. I faced challenges in many forms. Financially – yes! In academics – yes! People discouraged me and even certain circumstances but there was a power that helped me a lot. It was a voice from my heart always whispering to my mind “Don’t give up.”
Interviewer: Your idol?
Virat Kohli: I have loved watching our senior cricketers. The ones who inspired me were Shrikant sir, Kapil sir, Gawaskar sir and Tendulkar.
Interviewer: I can’t believe we have come to the end of this interview so soon. It felt like a few minutes though. The last question – We want to know your secret behind this success?
Virat Kohli: Hard work and a lot of practice. Morally, the support from my mother, my lovely wife and all my friends and mentors. I am who I am because of their belief in me.
