I. Resources accrued through your support
.We want to thank our supporters who have allowed us to continue facilitating access to clean drinking water. As of writing this report, we have raised a cumulative amount of $ 4927 since we joined the Global Giving Platform in December 2013. We are very happy to report that in April 2015 we have secured support and funding from a local company to purchase the vehicle that we need to supply water in report locations. The vehicle will be purchased and put into operation in the July to September quarter, after which we will send out another update. However, this means that this project on Global Giving will be de-activated at the end of May 2015.
II. Challenges faced in the past quarter
As mentioned in the last report, the community water plant has struggled with supply of clean drinking water because of the drying up of the water source. As a result, the water treatment plant was non-functional from January 22nd to April 8th 2015.
While water had been bought and purified for supply during the Nov to January period, water could not be purchased during Feb-April as other bore-wells in the area had also run dry. The Gram Panchayat worked very closely with the Public Works Department and the Zilla Panchayat to find a solution.
As a result of continuous advocacy and persuasion by the Gram Panchayat with the MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) and PWC (Public Welfare Committee), a new bore-well was dug; the electric and civil engineering work was completed in early April. Water supply to the water treatment plant started in early April and approx. 3740 litres of water has been distributed across 40 families in the month of April. There have been some difficulties with electricity and pumping equipment in April which are expected to be resolved completely in May, after which the plant should be able to function at full capacity.
III. Plan for the next quarter
a) Rain Water Recharge: Process has been initiated to undertake bore well recharging. This is another project on Global Giving (Ground water recharge) for which we have successfully raised funds and will be working on in the coming months.
b) Entrepreneur for water distribution: Process has begun to look for a new entrepreneur who would be committed to the cause of distributing water in the villages as the person who has done it so far , Mr. Muniramma Reddy (name changed), is now engaged in agricultural activities full-time.
c) Vehicle for water distribution from nearby water plants: We expect to have the vehicle purchased and distributing water within Thimmampalli and neighbouring panchayats in the next quarter
