Answer:
The moral root of this nation has shaken once more and this time it is the case of Dr Priyanka Reddy. We now have to answer various questions about this national shame and we would find it difficult to counter many arguments. Keeping these thoughts in mind, let us ask ourselves the big question, “Have we failed as a nation?”
Answering this question would be very difficult. But, let us try.
Imagine for a moment (Do not wish for it, just imagine. God help anyone in such a situation) that instead of Dr Reddy suffering this fate, it was a poor girl who did not have any knowledge about her own rights. She is illiterate and lives in a family which holds outdated orthodox ideas. The obvious question that should be asked is “Would the monsters have burnt her too like they did with Dr Reddy?” The answer would be “NO”.
“Why?” you ask.
The poor girl could not speak out for herself. She would be a disgrace to her family. And she would have to live with the fact that she was “USED” for pleasuring someone, for her entire life.
The reason they killed Dr Reddy was that she was literate and had the knowledge of her rights. She would eventually speak up and expose the mosnters, who were drunk with their urges. They had to stop her. Them being ignorant, they thought burning her would stop her. They burnt her to stop her from exercising her rights. Those who live in the dark have always dreaded light. Those who are ignorant have always hated knowledge. This is a triumph of knowledge over ignorance.
She is not just a woman who lost her life in a gruesome incident but, she has shown a path not just to the women but to everyone that we need to be educated and knowledgable. She has laid down her life for others to know the value of knowledge.
Another incredible happening which needs special mention is the reactions of the families, especially, the mothers of the ones accused. They have made the ultimate sacrifice by saying that they condemn the actions of their sons and that they would have to suffer the consequences of their own doings. This shows how we have moved forward as a nation. They are standing beside the mother of the victim consoling her and sharing her pains. They are ready to suffer because their sons have sinned. It does not just dissolve the social and religious walls we have built around ourselves. This act of courage shown by these mothers tells us that the concept of a “Mother” is universal and that mothers know what is right and what is not. They are knowledgeable.
Dr Priyanka Reddy represents of our own “Mother India”. It is only through her misfortunes that we are realising the importance of education, we see how people from different backgrounds come together to support one another, even if it means losing their loved ones. It was only when “Mother India” was attacked, we realised that she needs to be saved. It was only when we understood our rights and fought together, that we achieved OUR FREEDOM. Many today advocate that girls should be taught how to fight these monsters. Instead, it would be better if we convert these monsters into humans. This can be achieved through education and education alone.
India is strong. But, it would be stronger if Dr Priyanka Reddy didn’t have to suffer this fate.
Report writing on Priyanka Reddy.
Explanation:
Priyanka Reddy was a veterinary doctor killed on the fateful night of 27th November 2019. Fresh out of her shift in the hospital, she was retrieving her scooty that she had parked near the Outer Ring Road toll Plaza when the accused men approached her on the pretext of helping her.
Even though the time was just about 9 pm, the already drunk accused men took her and acted their pre-planned decision of puncturing her tire and ra ping her. They had intentionally slashed the tire of the vehicle which left her stranded. After the men took hold of her, they took turns ra ping her and also made her drink the alcohol. The men also continued to ra pe her even after she had died, which add to the barbarity of the deed. Her body was found charred and burning the next morning under the underpass, 25 km away from where she had parked her vehicle.
This monstrous act brings back to the fore the issue of women’s safety and what the country needs to do about it. It also brings back memories of the Nirbhaya case of 2012 of a young medical student gang-ra ped on the night of December 16 in Delhi. What the authorities and the nation now need to do is make India safe for women, no matter what time they are out.
