First we will find √2 on number line and then we will make 5 jumps measuring the same.
We take origin as our 1st point. We will then taken another point at distance 1 from the origin. This will be our 2nd point. We will then draw a perpendicular to X axis (of length 1) the end point of which will be our 3rd point. Now points 1, 2 and 3 form a right angled triangle and we can say that the hypotenuse will be √2 in measure. We draw a curve with point #1 as center and √2 as radius. The point where this curve and X axis meet will be √2. Now we will make 5 jumps of this distance (which is √2) and at the end point, we will have 5√2 as our point which we had to show on the number line.
