Its really simple.
Draw a number line and mark -1,0,1,2,3 on it( done with blue pen for recognition)
Draw a perpendicular from 0(black pen)
Now, measure 2 unit distance and cut on the perpendicular and join the arc to 1(green pen)
The line with green is the root of 5
Therefore measure that distance and cut the same distance on the number line from 0(pencil)
Next, to understand how tge green line is root 5
As u have seen i have marked a triangle abc
U already know that ab is 2 as v took 2 and cut it on the perpendicular
Its obvious that bc is 1
Now by Pythagoras theorem u gey ac =√5
