draw a line of 3.4 cm and mark it as A and B .extend it for 1 cm and mark it as C. make a arc from a and c more than half upwards and downwards join it . you will find that the line intersects a c and also a point mark it as d . from d make a semi circle . now from b make a straight line to the semi circle mark it as e . now take the measure from b 2 e make another quarter circle ...... and you will get √3.4 on number line
