20 examples seem like arbitrary and high. Which makes me believe this is either the worst homework assignment I’ve seen in a long time, or an antagonistic way to convince yourself not to learn fractions (Internet strangers only gave me 19 examples! See fractions are pointless!).

It’s a weird request. Fractions are low level things. It’s like asking “Give me twenty real life applications of reading?” If you just go about your day you’re going to find a fraction the same way you’re going to find a traffic sign. Look at the back of cereal box and read the daily nutritional values. Buy some gum and note the sales tax. Listen to the news and hear a poll number.

If you have a cake and half a cake, how would you add them?

With the help of rational numbers.

1+12=321+12=32 or 1.5.

Similarly, how would you add one-third of a number and one-fourth?

13+14=3+412=71213+14=3+412=712

Here’s another example: 110+120110+120

20+10200=30200=15100=0.15

In mathematics, a real number is a value that represents a quantity along a line.

...The real numbers include all the rational numbers,

such as the integer −5 and

the fraction 4/3, and all

the irrational numbers, such as √ 46

They make our life easier by adding maths to it.

They teach us calculation.
