There are two types of reproduction :-

  • Asexual reproduction
  • Sexual reproduction

Reproduction is producing new organisms of their own kind. Reproduction in plants are of two types :-

  • Asexual reproduction
  • Sexual reproduction

Asexual reproduction in plants:

  • New individuals are identical to each other.
  • Daughter cells are produced from a single parent.
  • Sex cells or male and female gametes are not formed.
  • Zygote is not formed.
  • No fertilization takes place.

Some common types of asexual reproduction are :-

  • Binary fission [ Example. Bacteria ]
  • Budding [ Example. Yeast ]
  • Spore formation [ Example. Mosses ]

Sexual reproduction in plants:

  • New individuals share characters of both the parents.
  • Two parents [ male and female ] are needed fór sexual reproduction.
  • Sex cell or male and female gametes are formed.
  • Zygote is formed.
  • Fertilization takes place.

Some common types of sexual reproduction are :-

  • Seed formation.
  • Fruit formation
  • Fertlization.
