Researchers have historically considered the human appendix to be a vestigial structure. What evidence, if true, would best disprove this claim?

Answer:

It was Darwin who first highlighted the fact that human appendix as a vestigial organ which had turned inactive and of no use due to evolution.

Some said it is nothing except homology and there is no such organ which is completely vestigial and has some minimum functions.

So the argument is rather controversial.

We can disapprove this claim as it used to help releasing cellulose enzyme in past and helps in the breakdown of cellulose.

The appendix is present in the lower right abdomen.

The function of the appendix is not known.

There are many theories regarding its function i.e. storehouse of good bacteria, reboots the digestive system etc.
