Answer:

R= 4 ohm

Explanation:

for X,

R₁ = ρL₁/A₁

Given,

for the other wire L₂= 4L₁ ; A₂= 5A₁

R₂ = ρL₂/A₂

R₁/R₂ = (L₁/A₁) / (L₂/A₂)

R₁/R₂ = (L₁/A₁) / (4L₁/5A₁)

Multiply and divide L₁

R₁/R₂ = [L₁/(A₁ x L₁)] / [4L₁/(5A₁ x L₁)]

R₁/R₂ = (L₁/V) / (4L₁/5V)

5/R₂  = 5/4

R₂ = 4 ohm.

Explanation:

Given Resistance of conducting wire is x of length 1m of 5 ohm calculate resistance of a wire made by same material whose length is 4 times and area of cross section is 5 times that of wire x(at same temperature)

  • Given resistance of wire x is 5 ohm
  • Resistance of a wire of 4 times length and 5 times area of cross section as that of wire.
  • We know that resistance = ρ l / a where l is length, a is area and ρ is resistivity
  • Now for wire X, since the other wire is of same material, it has same resistivity.
  • Let its resistance be R2
  • R2 = ρ l2 / a2
  •     = ρ (4l / 5a)
  •     = 4/5 ρ (l/ a)
  •    = 4/5 x 5
  • Or R2 = 4 ohms
