respiration is a vital process because it is responsible for the oxidation of food in our body in the cells inside mitochondria. respiration is important since it oxidises food we eat and transform it into energy rich compounds known as ATP. ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate. when we inhale air, it enters through our windpipe in our body and oxygen is absorbed from the air and carried to different cells by the help of blood from alveoli. alveoli are thin blood capillaries with rich blood supply. the blood carries oxygen by trapping it into its iron rich component known as haemoglobin. oxygen is combined with haemoglobin and forms oxyhemoglobin which is then transported to the different parts of the body where they are required
