They combine glucose and oxygen and make ATP, carbon dioxide, and water. Enzymes carry out this process in the cell and work best at the optimal temperature. If the temperature is too cold, the molecules move too slowly, but if the temperature is too hot, the enzymes denature.

The Skin and Lungs both work to moderate the temperature of the body so it doesn’t get out of a normal range. You breath faster when you want to cool down and you shiver (muscle twitching) when you need to produce heat to warm the body. The autonomic nervous system has control and you can’t help but shiver when you are cold. The autonomic nervous system can shut down the digestive system if the muscles are providing too much heat and it can make you sweat to cool you. The autonomic nervous system can control your heart rate to beat faster to make these things happen. The autonomic nervous system can sacrifice your arms and legs by shutting down circulation to keep the core body temperature up.
