There are sections of the brain, called the medulla and pons that regulaterespiration. They control the rate ofrespiration by monitoring carbon dioxide levels in the blood. In times of excitement or during exercise, the cells require more oxygen than normal andrespiration speeds up.

Respiration of unusual environment or respiration distress is found among many new born infants.The underlying causes of respiratory distress in newborns are unique to this age group.The ability of the newborn infant to adapt to the new environment is critical to survival. Foetal respiration is usually very important and different from the one that takes place in   the carrier .It determiners the well being of the unborn organism since it is the source of energy for its metabolism.
