In the 1980's, Poland was ruled by the Polish Workers United Party, which restricted the formation of trade unions. Once, a woman crane operator was suspended unjustly. Lech Walesa, a colleague of the woman, gathered people and started protesting against the government. In 1989, the government agreed to sign a 21-point agreement. A trade union called Solidarnosc (Solidarity) wad created. It won 99 out of 100 seats and formed the majority and Lech Walesa was made the first President of Poland.
