their is no un-animative of the opinion among the historians as regards to the nature of the Revolt of 1857 .some are of the opinion that the revolt was the first national war of independence,others are of the view that the revolt was especially a mutiny of the Indian sepoys. yey another view is that the Revolt of 1857 was feudal in character the feudal lords who were deprived of their zamindari made an attempt to recover those through the revolt. but modern historians on the basis of historical accounts and findings had came to an conclusion that though the revolt had organised among the sepoys soon it assumed the nature of a revolt of the civilian population which had given it a character of a popular revolt.
