Ria thought of making curd. For this, she took lukewarm milk, mixed some curd into it and stir well. She kept the mixture in fridge. Next day she observed that curd was not set. Can you tell why the curd did not set?

The curd was not set as the temperature Ria gave was about 4-5°C and temperature required to set curd is 30-40°C.

Explanation:

  • Curd contains lactic acid bacteria known as "lactobacillus," which cause the bacteria to grow in milk. It ferments the milk and turns it into curd in a matter of hours.
  • Lactobacillus, a lactic acid bacterium found in curd, multiplies in the right medium of 30-40°C temperature and ferments the milk to make curd in a few hours.
  • Curd is a good source of calcium and protein, and it's good for people who have lactose intolerance.
