Rishi went to a palmist to show his palm. The palmist used a special len
for this purpose.
(i) State the nature of the lens and reason for its use.
(ii) Where should the palmist place/hold the lens so as to have a real and
magnified image of an object ?
(iii) If the focal length of this lens is 10 cm and the lens is held at a distance of 5 cm from the palm, use lens formula to find the position
and size of the image.

Answer:

1)

nature of lens is convex or converging.

palmist used this to get magnified and real image of her palm

2)

palmist should place the lens such that object is between f2 and 2f2 of the lens. so that real and magnified image of object is formed.

3)

by using lens formula

here

f = +10

u = -5

1/f = 1/v - 1/u

1/v = 1/10 - 15

1/v = -1/10

v = -10

image is placed 10cm away from the lens at same side of object.

magnification = V/U = -10/-5 = 2

image size is twice of objects size.

nature of image virtual, erect and magnified.

hope this will help you
