Answer:

Total number of mangoes are 112

Explanation:

Let Ritu has x mangoes and Kiran has y mangoes

If Kiran gives 8 mangoes to Ritu then the mangoes of Ritu will be 5/2 times the mangoes of Kiran

Therefore,

x + 8 = (5/2)(y - 8)

or, 2x + 16 = 5y - 40

or, 2x - 5y = -56           ............ (1)

Again

If Ritu gives 16 mangoes to Kiran then the mangoes of Kiran will be as much as the mangoes of Ritu

Therefore,

x - 16 = y + 16

or, x - y = 32           ................ (2)

Multiplying eq (2) by 5 and subtracting from eq (1)

2x - 5x = -56 - 160

⇒ -3x = -216

⇒ x = 72

Therefore y = 72 - 32 = 40

Total number of mangoes = 72 + 40 = 112
