Ritu went to Shimla with her parents during her Summer vacations. While travelling by car she saw many trees and plants. She was curious to know why the trees looked different from the trees she saw in Bikaner (Rajasthan). Can you help her in understanding why there is a difference in the trees found in Shimla and Bikaner?

Answer:

The leaves in Bikaner are mostly spines in shape and structure whereas in Shimla normal shaped leaves can be seen.

Explanation:

'Cause annual rainfall in Bikaner is very less relative to Shimla. So, the trees or plants of Bikaner tend to minimise their surface area of leaves which is modified to spine in order to have least transpiration of water through their plant body to survive even in those scanty rainfall areas.

Shimla has sufficient rainfall to conduct normal transpiration rate through the leaves of the trees of that area
