Riya started from her home to office. she started in east direction. after walking for 4 m she turned to her left and walked 8 m, now she turned left and walked 2 m. after this she turned to right walked 4 m. now after turning to her right she walked 13 m and reached office. find the shortest distance between her office and home.

Distance OA = 4 m

Distance AB = 8 m

Distance CB = 2 m

Distance CD = 4 m

Distance DF = 13 m

Now the Shortest distance is the distance between O & F .i.e.,

In ΔOHF,

OF is the shortest Distance.

DE =CB =2 m

⇒ EF = DF - DE = 13 - 2 = 11 m

⇒ FH = AB + CD = 8 + 4 = 12 m

⇒ OH = OA + AH = OA + EF = 4 + 11 = 15 m

Using Pythagoras Theorem in Δ OFH

we get,

OF² = FH² + OH²

OF² = 15² + 12²

OF² = 225 + 144

OF = √369

OF = 19.21

Therefore, Shortest Distance Between her office and Home is 19.21 m
