Solution:-

Let the number thought by Riyaz be x.

From the information given, we get to know our equation as:

2x - 7 = 23

Now, Let us Solve for x

2x - 7 =  23

2x = 23 + 7

2x = 30

x = 30/2

∴ x = 15.

So, the number thought by Riyaz is 15.

Verification:-

LHS                RHS

2x - 7        =    23

2(15) - 7    =    23

30 -7         =    23

23             =     23

∴ LHS = RHS
