Given :-

  • Robert's father is 4 times as old as Robert. After 5 years, father will be three times as old as Robert.

To find :-

  • Present ages

Solution :-

Let the present age of Robert be x then Robert's father be 4x

  • After 5 years

→ Robert age = x + 5

→ Robert's father age = 4x + 5

According to question

After 5 years, father will be three times as old as Robert.

→ 3(x + 5) = 4x + 5

→ 3x + 15 = 4x + 5

→ 15 - 5 = 4x - 3x

→ x = 10

Hence,

  • Present age of Robert = x = 10 years

  • Present age of Robert's father = 4x = 40 years

Therefore,

  • Correct option is (d)
