role of big powers in South East asia
Answers
Explanation:
This article examines the profound changes taking place in the relations between Southeast Asia (both as a region and as component states) and the great powers, and the factors that are driving them.
In the cold war era, a somewhat simplified structure of relationships existed between the Southeast Asian states and the great powers. This structure was conditioned and shaped essentially by ideological conflict and by great power rivalry in the region.
In the post‐cold war era, however, this structure is undergoing change and is evolving into a more complex one. Factors now include the absence of ideological conflict, the primacy of economic considerations in relations between states, the configuration of conflict and cooperation determined in large measure by economic interest, the relative decline of US power and capabilities, and the rising prosperity, confidence and influence of the Southeast Asian states in regional and international affairs.
